The obverse of the commemorative coin bears a representation of the entrance hall of the Hungarian Geological and Geophysical Institute. The inscription on the lower edge of the obverse reads ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’, with the value numeral ‘10000’ and the inscription ‘FORINT’ placed above it, positioned slightly to the left. The mint mark ‘BP’ and the mint year ‘2014’ are positioned parallel to the right edge, fitted into the staircase.

The reverse of the collector coin bears a half-length portrait of Ödön Lechner, depicting the architect sitting in an armchair, with the representation of the Museum of Applied Arts in the background. On the upper edge, the coin is inscribed with ‘ÖDÖN LECHNER’. The inscriptions ‘1845’ and ‘1914’ are placed in two horizontal lines below the name, on the right. The initials of designer Mihály Fritz are on the right edge of the coin, above the armchair.

The standing rectangle shaped collector coin is struck in .925 fine silver. It weighs 31.46 grams and tis size is 39.6 x 26.4 mm, with a smooth edge. The non-ferrous metal version is made from an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel. It weighs 22.5 grams and has the same diameter and the same coin design as the silver version.

From 2014, each precious metal commemorative coin will be issued in a less expensive non-ferrous metal version to benefit collectors who wish to buy the same artistic theme at a more affordable price. By issuing lower-priced versions, the MNB and the Hungarian Mint would also like to encourage younger generations to collect commemorative coins. Accordingly, the silver Lechner collector coin with a face value of HUF 10,000 and the non-ferrous metal coin with a face value of HUF 2,000 will be on sale at a price equal to their face value for three months from the date of issue and until stocks run out, respectively.

The coin is distributed by the Hungarian Mint Ltd. It will be on sale from 19 November 2014 at a price equal to its face value (HUF 2,000) at the coin shop of the Mint (Budapest, V. ker., Hold u. 17.) and in the Mint’s webshop (http://penzvero.hu/), where a number of collector coins produced from gold, silver and non-ferrous metals issued earlier, are also on sale.
