One of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank's key strategic objectives is the development and high-level conduct of research and analysis activities. The primary role of research at MNB is to provide expert support for the decision making process regarding monetary policy, and to help further the academic reputation of MNB domestically and internationally. Research is intended to increase knowledge of the functioning of the Hungarian economy and its economic convergence toward the euro-area. Research topics related to the convergence process among EU countries, to the functioning of the euro area economy, and more generally, to macroeconomic theory are also of interest to MNB.
To reach these objectives, our researchers produce publications and working papers relevant for policymakers, academics and the general public. They are also active in creating and maintaining a research atmosphere in the bank, by cooperating in particular projects, playing a leading role in seminar discussions, giving technical expertise and actively participating in policy strategy discussions.
