On 4 June 2009, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued a cupro-nickel collector coin ‘Donát Bánki’ with a face value of HUF 1,000, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Donát Bánki.

The obverse of the coin features a stylised representation of the Bánki water turbine, in addition to the standard design elements (the denomination: 1000; the legend: Republic of Hungary; the mint mark: BP; and the date of issue: 2009).

The reverse bears a portrait of Donát Bánki, and the inscriptions ‘1859–1922’ and ‘a Bánki-féle vízturbina feltalálója’ (inventor of the Bánki water turbine). In the right lower corner of the coin, the signature mark of designer Balázs Bitó is positioned.

The collector coin is square shaped and made of 75% copper and 25% nickel. It weighs 14.0 grams, its width is 28.43 mm and it has a plain edge.

The mintage limit is 20,000 pieces, of which 10,000 are produced using the special proof technology.
