Budapest, 15 June 2025 – In an uncertain global economic environment, cooperation between Hungary and the Turkic states represents a strong, solid bond, according to MNB Governor Mihály Varga, speaking at a ceremony at the Hungarian Representative Office of the Organisation of Turkic States, where a miraculous stag statue by Karcag-based sculptor Sándor Györfi was unveiled. Varga emphasised that a community’s most important resource was always its heritage: if there was a shared past, there would be a shared future.

The Governor of the MNB noted that the miraculous stag statue unveiled at the ceremony was an ancient symbol that the Hungarian tribes had brought with them from Asia during their conquest of the Carpathian Basin. He explained that for the Hungarians the miraculous stag represented a link between Asia and Europe, and that it continued to be an integral part of Hungarian cultural heritage and identity. Varga said that nowadays there was a trend to focus only on the present and that we tended to forget our roots and the importance of the past, but that even the most modern developments and solutions had underlying cultural foundations. He pointed out that just as new buildings were built on solid ground, modern life could not be successful over the long term without cultural roots. It was necessary to maintain these foundations in the economy as well, in order to preserve a firm basis even in an uncertain global economic environment.
