Budapest, 9 June 2026 - The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) hosted the next seminar of its 2026 Technical Cooperation Programme in Budapest between 1–4 June 2026, under the title “Green and Sustainable Finances – Introducing the MNB’s Green Program”. The event - organized for the 4th time - focused on presenting the MNB’s sustainability-related initiatives and green finance related activities. The programme brought together 19 experts from 13 countries.
In her welcome address, Ildikó Zátrok, Strategic, Sustainable Finance and IT Supervision Director of the MNB, highlighted the growing importance of sustainability considerations and climate risk management in central bank operations and in safeguarding financial stability.
During the four-day seminar, participants gained comprehensive insight into the MNB’s Green Program and the central bank’s monetary and supervisory toolkit supporting sustainability objectives. The seminar covered, among others, international and domestic approaches for managing climate and environmental risks, the results of the MNB’s short- and long-term climate stress tests, the key elements of the Green Recommendations for credit institutions and insurance companies, the MNB’s Green Monetary Policy Toolkit, conditions for establishing the green mortgage lending market, and the green aspects of macroprudential policy. Participants were also introduced to the MNB’s Green Preferential Capital Requirements Program, the supervision of green financial products, as well as the central bank’s initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.
Launched in 2023, the Technical Cooperation Programme of the Central Bank of Hungary plays an important role in fostering central bank knowledge sharing and strengthening international cooperation. The Programme aims to support dialogue between central banks, facilitate the exchange of experiences and promote the adoption of best practices in addressing the challenges posed by the rapidly changing economic environment.
