Budapest, 22 September 2025 – The Committee on Economics supported the appointment of Levente Sipos-Tompa as Deputy Governor of the MNB with 11 votes in favour, 1 against and no abstentions. Starting from October, Sipos-Tompa will head the Deputy Governorship responsible for the supervision of financial organisations and consumer protection.
According to the Deputy Governor candidate, the strategy of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank’s new management builds on the triad of stability, independence and transparency, with an emphasis on price stability, financial stability and supporting economic growth. As he said, the primary goals of the central bank’s supervision department were to maintain trust and manage risks as part of the overall central bank strategy. “The MNB’s toolkit in the areas of licensing, inspections, sanctions and educational ensures that the Hungarian financial system remains stable and reliable, even amid global economic uncertainties,” stated Sipos-Tompa. He emphasised that going forward the central bank’s supervisory branch must treat the suppression of digital banking fraud and the management of risks related to the transition towards sustainability as primary objectives.
Dr Levente Sipos-Tompa is a lawyer and economist. Since 2009 he has worked at the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB), where he was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors from April 2019 to December 2024.
