Budapest, 26 March 2025 – The Board of Directors of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank has nominated Tibor Tóth as Chief Executive Officer of the Budapest Stock Exchange, effective 1 May 2025. Tóth, former state secretary for macroeconomic and international affairs, will replace Richárd Végh at the helm of the BSE.

The goal of the new management of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is to ensure that a developed, liquid and transparent capital market supports the capital supply of Hungarian businesses. The MNB intends to strengthen the regional role of the Hungarian stock exchange and the efforts to unify EU capital markets, and determines the leadership for the BSE in line with the new goals and challenges. Tibor Tóth was director of Citibank and vice-president of KDB Bank, before serving as state secretary for macroeconomic and international affairs at the Ministry of Finance. He has extensive experience in capital markets, risk management and international relations.

MNB Governor Varga thanked Richárd Végh for his nine years of work at the helm of the Stock Exchange, saying that his knowledge and experience would continue to be relied on by the Governor in the future.
