Budapest, March 4, 2026 - The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) hosts the next seminar of its 2026 Technical Cooperation Programme in Budapest between 28 September – 1 October 2026, under the title “Innovations in the payments system - both electronic way and cash - in Hungary”. The event focuses on innovative and effective approaches to central bank activities, supervision, and regulation related to both electronic payment methods and cash. The programme brings together 28 experts from 21 countries.
In his welcome address, Gábor Szőcs, Executive Director responsible for International Relations of the MNB, highlighted the growing importance of innovations in payment systems, electronic payment solutions, and efficient cash management in central bank operations and in developing the financial infrastructure.
During the four-day seminar, participants gain comprehensive insight into the Hungarian payment and cash supply systems, their regulatory and oversight frameworks, and recent developments. The seminar covers the MNB’s retail payment developments – including instant payments and the Payments Strategy 2030 –, the status of the CBDC project, the impact of EU regulations (e.g. EMIR, PSD2), as well as practices in automatized cash center operations, banknote processing, counterfeit management, and public education.
The Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) launched its Technical Cooperation Programme in 2023 to strengthen professional ties among central banks, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience, and promote the sharing of best practices. The programme provides opportunity for central bank experts to exchange views on current economic and financial issues, as well as to share their experience in various areas of central banking.
Magyar Nemzeti Bank
