The goal of the research in the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is to provide firm theoretical and empirical foundations for monetary and macroprudential policy decisions, by employing the most recent theoretical models and the most advanced empirical tools. Therefore, it is one of the priorities of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank – in accordance with its mandate – to continuously improve its research activities and analytic capabilities and maintain a high standard in these.

For all of these reasons, it is an important goal of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank that by promoting its research activity, it should have a significant impact both in domestic and international level. To achieve this goal, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank has research activity in its several directorates – according to the specific profiles of these directorates. The goal of this is to establish a knowledge base that is competitive even at the international level, by undertaking both academic and applied research activity.

Detailed descriptions of the results of this research activity, in English or in Hungarian language, are published in the series of MNB Working Papers and MNB Occasional Papers, and studies from MNB staff members are also regularly published by the Financial and Economic Review.
