Born in Orosháza in 1969, József Dancsó graduated from the Budapest University of Economics in 1993 with a degree in Finance and Commerce. He started work as Chief Loan Officer at Konzumbank's branch in Orosháza and continued his career in 1994 at Kereskedelmi és Hitelbank. In 1996, he was offered the position of heading the branch in Szarvas. From 1998 to 2004, he was Director of the Szeged Directorate of OTP Bank and until 2006 he acted as advisor to the Chairman-CEO.

From 2006 to 2010, he was deputy mayor of his hometown and served as mayor from 2010 to 2014. Dancsó was a Member of Parliament for 16 years, between 1998 and 2014, also participating in the work of the State Audit Office and the Budget Committee.

In 2014, he was appointed President of the Hungarian State Treasury, a position he held until 2017. He then worked as Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Eximbank until 2022. Up to 2023 he was advisor to the minister at the Ministry of Regional Development. Starting in February 2023, he was Deputy Chief Financial Officer of the Digital Hungary Agency and from January 2025 he was Deputy Chief Financial Officer of Pro-M Professional Mobile and Network Services.

Dr Dancsó holds a specialised upper level certificate in Russian and a specialised intermediate level certificate in English.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of Volánbusz and the Supervisory Board of MÁV Start Railway Passenger Transport Company. He also served on the Supervisory Boards of Új Színház (New Theatre) and MVM Net.

He is co-author of a university textbook on banking operations and holds the title of Professor Emeritus at the Corvinus University of Budapest.

He has also had significant positions as a member of the State Reform Committee, as President of the National Association of Small Towns and Vice-President of the International Association of Treasuries (AiST).

Dr Dancsó received the Award of the County of Békés for his endeavours and was granted the title of honorary citizen of Orosháza.
