Stocks of securities issued by Hungarian residents increased by HUF 22,217 billion, or 33 percent, in 2023. Transactions and revaluations accounted for 65 per cent and 35 per cent, respectively, of the increase. The largest increase, HUF 8,813 billion, was in stock of government securities, followed by increases of HUF 4,987 billion and HUF 3,540 billion in stock of investment fund shares and bonds issued by credit institutions, respectively. The largest growth rate were recorded in stocks of bonds issued by the MNB and credit institutions, with the value of securities issued by both sectors more than doubling in the course of the year.

Over the past year, all holding sectors increased the amount of securities held. Non-resident holdings of securities increased by HUF 7,931 billion (43%). There was also a significant increase of HUF 5,976 billion (34%) in household holdings of securities. The value of securities held by financial corporations increased by HUF 6,695 bn (26%), of which the value of securities held by other financial intermediaries increased most, by HUF 3,063 billion (60%) over the year.
