On 3 June 2005 the National Bank of Hungary issued a silver collector coin “The karst caves of Aggtelek” with a face value of HUF 5,000, continuing its series “World Heritage in Hungary”.

On the obverse there is a stylised depiction of a flying bat, while the reverse shows both the entrance and the inside of the stalactite cave in Aggtelek.

The coin was designed by the applied artist Áron Bohus.

The coin was made of .925 fine silver, weighs 31.46 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a reeded edge.

10,000 coins may be struck, of which 5,000 are produced by the special “proof” technology.

The coin may be purchased from the Hungarian Mint Ltd. (Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút 38) or from the shop in the National Bank of Hungary’s Visitor Centre (Budapest, Szabadság tér 8/9). The coin is available at face value for three months from its date of issue.
