Collector coin to mark the 350th anniversary of the death of Miklós Zrínyi

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank has issued a silver and a non-ferrous metal collector coin to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the death of Miklós Zrínyi. The Hungarian-Croatian aristocrat, born on 3 May 1620, was the most excellent military commander and outstanding politician of the period, author of treatises on the art of war and a prominent poet.

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank has issued a silver and a non-ferrous metal collector coin to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the death of Miklós Zrínyi. The Hungarian-Croatian aristocrat, born on 3 May 1620, was the most excellent military commander and outstanding politician of the period, author of treatises on the art of war and a prominent poet. 

The obverse of the commemorative coin bears a portrait of Miklós Zrínyi in the centre, based on the painting by Jan Thomas. The upper circular legend on the edge of the coin reads ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’, with the value numeral ’5000’ and the inscription ‘FORINT’ inscribed in a lower circular legend. The upper and lower legends are separated by the mint year ‘2014’ on the left and by the mint mark ‘BP.’ on the right.

The reverse of the collector coin bears a representation of the Castle of Csáktornya, with a stylised river below the image of the Castle. The inscription ‘1620-1664’ is placed horizontally, above are image. The inscription on a band forming a wavy ribbon reads ‘CSÁKTORNYA’, with the initials of designer László Hunyadi placed below it. The upper and lower legends on the edge of the coin read ‘ZRÍNYI MIKLÓS’ and ‘SORS BONA, NIHIL ALIUD’. They are separated by a dot on both the right and the left of the coin.

The silver Zrínyi collector coin is struck in .925 fine silver. It weighs 12.5 grams and has a diameter of 30 mm and a milled edge. The non-ferrous metal version is made from an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel. It weighs 12.5 grams and has the same diameter as the silver version.

The silver Zrínyi collector coin with a face value of HUF 5,000 and the non-ferrous metal coin with a face value of HUF 2,000 will be on sale at a price equal to their face value for three months from the date of issue and until stocks run out, respectively.

The coin is distributed by the Hungarian Mint Ltd. It will be on sale from 18 November 2014 at the coin shop of the Mint (Budapest, V. ker., Hold u. 17.) and in the Mint’s webshop (http://penzvero.hu/), where a number of collector coins produced from gold, silver and non-ferrous metals issued earlier, are also on sale.
