The Magyar Nemzeti Bank will expand its collector coin issuance programme for 2020 with three new themes. Continuing six previous series, the Bank plans to issue collector coins in 15 themes next year. The programme includes one gold, twelve silver and two separate non-ferrous metal collector coin thematic schemes, but to promote the coins' value transferring role as widely as possible, non-ferrous versions will accompany the coins issued in precious metal finish.

Consistent with the practice of foreign central banks, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank issues collector coins with the aim of commemorating, in dignified way, significant anniversaries and contemporary events for posterity from the country’s cultural, scientific and economic history in a durable format.

In this spirit, the Bank’s collector coin issuance programme for 2020 will be complemented with such important themes from the country’s national and economic history as, for example, the 150th anniversary of the start of organised fire-fighting in Hungary, the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian Constitutional Court and the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Budapest Stock Exchange.

The details of the MNB’s collector coin programme for 2020 are shown in the table below:

Since 2014, a non-ferrous metal version with a face value of HUF 2,000 of all precious metal collector coins have also been issued. This design will not only expand choice, but it will also help the promotion of the collector coins as well as their educational role due to their lower price more effectively.

The MNB reserves the right to change any aspects of the programme. Final data will be determined by the Governor’s decrees published in the Hungarian Official Journal (Magyar Közlöny).
