Budapest, 27 May 2026 – “One of the basic conditions for the economy to function well is a strong relationship built on trust between Hungary’s economic actors. The Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry plays a key role in this regard,” according to MNB Governor Mihály Varga, speaking at the issuing ceremony for the collector coin honouring the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK). He emphasised that cooperation between the MNB and MKIK had produced tangible results, as Hungary’s broadest-based business cycle research was being produced through the joint work of the two institutions.
Governor Varga highlighted that the MNB’s new management had started its work in March of last year with the express intent of rationalising the central bank’s operations and enhancing its efficiency. He added that one important element of this new approach was that the central bank was working with Hungary’s economic actors to develop partnerships which yielded tangible, practical benefits. Governor Varga pointed out that, within this framework, the MKIK’s expertise, feedback and collaboration skills were factors that reinforced economic stability, supported sustainable growth and contributed to Hungary’s businesses participating successfully in domestic and international competition. As he had previously noted, stability was not just a concept for the Magyar Nemzeti Bank: it was a central task that had characterised the central bank’s activities over the past year. Varga added that the central bank’s primary objective as set forth by law was to achieve and maintain price stability. Moreover, the MNB was committed to preserving values and fostering financial awareness, and as such it had been regularly issuing collector coins related to Hungary’s significant events and anniversaries since 1968. The collector coin issued to commemorate the anniversary of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was a symbol of the organisation’s commitment to Hungary’s economy, business community and professional cooperation.
The MNB is issuing a non-ferrous metal collector coin entitled “Magyar Kereskedelmi és Iparkamara” (Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) with a face value of 5,000 forints. The primary role of the coins now being issued is to transmit values and raise awareness; they are not for use in everyday payments. The face value displayed on the collector coins is meant to preserve their value for collectors. Further details on the coins can be found on the MNB’s website.
