New addition to the MNB collector coin series presenting Hungarian castles

Budapest, 15 September 2026 – The Magyar Nemzeti Bank continues its series presenting Hungarian castles with the release of a 25,000-forint silver collector coin featuring the Castle of Nagyvázsony, along with a 5,000-forint non-ferrous version.

As the ninth piece in the Hungarian Castles series, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is issuing a 25,000-forint silver collector coin featuring the Castle of Nagyvázsony, along with a 5,000-forint non-ferrous version. Built in the latter half of the 15^th century, the Nagyvázsony Castle was one of the most significant medieval fortresses in the Balaton Uplands. In 1472, King Matthias I gave the castle to his general, Pál Kinizsi, in recognition of his military prowess. The previous eight pieces in the MNB collector coin series showcasing Hungarian castles were Visegrád Castle (2004), Diósgyőr Castle (2005), Munkács Castle (2006), Gyula Castle (2007), Siklós Castle (2008), Kőszeg Castle (2015), Szigetvár Castle (2016), and Eger Castle (2018).

The primary role of collector coins is to raise awareness and promote values. Their use in everyday payments is to be avoided. The denomination is intended to preserve the coin’s value as a collector's item.
